Welcome all!
Once again I am fundraising to travel across the world to scale mountains and visit amazing cultures! 3 months in Northern India for a gap semester with Vermont Intercultural Semesters. 9 other teens and I will travel together on this adventure. For the first few weeks we will trek through the Himalayas, staying in remote villages and monasteries. Then we will go to a high school in Ladakh called SECMOL, joining the community of Ladakhi students, working along side them and teaching them English. The program focuses greatly on sustainability as well as the culture, history, religion and economy of Ladakh.
Through hearing stories from people who have been to Ladakh, from reading through the piles of books I have been loaned, and from looking through the blogs of students who have done the semester I have already fallen in love with the rich, beautiful culture. And the landscape. I fell in love with mountains while in Ecuador—trekking through the Andes was one of the most incredible experiences I have ever had—so how could I resist a chance to see the Himalayas in person, to be surrounded by Himalayan peaks as we travel between villages and monasteries. I have been looking at tons of photos of Ladakh and the Himalayas and am itching take my own.
I will be working hard all year to raise the $11,000 dollars to go on this adventure, earning the money through my music by teaching piano lessons, performing at events, concerts, and selling my album of piano improvisations (Barefoot in the Snow). I will be hosting events like Indian Dinners. And working various odd jobs: house painting, yard work, garden work, computer help, etc.
If you wish to support my efforts I welcome any donations mailed to:
